Areas of Expertise
I am a certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist. I completed my training through Equissage California. I utilize the structure and fundamentals I learned from Equissage to evaluate and treat your horse. If your horse would benefit from Equine Sports Massage Therapy, I will work with you on setting up a treatment schedule.
Equine Sports Massage Therapy
The benefits of Equine Sports Massage Therapy are the same as those in Human Sports Massage Therapy:
Among the many documented benefits of massage are:
-
Enhances muscle tone and range of motion.
-
Reduces inflammation and swelling in the joints, helping with pain.
-
Promotes the healing process by increasing the flow of blood to the muscles and aiding in carrying away excessive fluids and toxins.
-
Creates a positive effect on the contractual and release process of the muscles...releasing tension...relaxing muscles.
-
Stimulates circulation and relaxation of muscles, releasing endorphins which are the body's natural painkillers.
-
Helps to maintain the whole body in better physical condition.
Each session will last around an hour depending on each horse. Every session will include a full body massage with extra time focused on the areas that need it. I will also provide you with exercises that you can work with your horse on to improve the outcomes of treatment. Our plan could also include extra services, per your approval. I ask that you are present for the first full body evaluation and first session with your horse.
Equine Stretching
Just like with human athletes, equine athletes benefit from stretching. Stretching is a key tool in helping reduce the risk of injury. This service can be added onto to any Sports Massage Therapy Session, or as a stand-alone item. I ask that you or a member of your team be present.
Saddle Fit Assessment
If you are wearing the wrong size footwear, this can impact your overall performance and health as an athlete. The same is true with saddles. If your horse is showing signs of poor saddle fit, I can assess the saddle you are using to see if it is the right fit for your horse. A poor fitting saddle can cause nerve damage, muscle soreness/strain, as well as poor rider balance which your horse has to over-compensate for.
A proper fitting saddle leads to a better outcome for your horse as well as the rider.
About Me
Hello, my name is Jen, I am a certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist. I am fully insured and offer additional services in conjunction to massage. I completed my training through Equissage California.
I fell in love with horses as a child, growing up with them, learning about their personalities and strengths, bonding with them. When it was time to leave for college, I thought I said goodbye to horses, not forever, but unsure of how they would be a part of my life as an adult. Inspired by other women I have seen carving a path for themselves, rediscovering the things that brought them joy in their youth, I have returned to horses. The peace and strength they inspire inside of me brings immense joy to my life.
I was always drawn to healing, I went to school to become a nurse, then pivoted later as a Birth Doula. I have since dived into the world of Equine Sports Massage and found the place where I belong. I am so excited to work with owners and riders to improve their horse's health, working to improve function and prevent injuries. Horses are not only athletes, but they become an integral part of your life. I believe we should provide for them what we would also provide for ourselves, a well-rounded care routine that ensures their comfort and ability for as long as we can.
I look forward to working with you and your horse.
